About FPTG

Finding Purpose Through Grief is an organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area. We offer emotional healing support for parents and families who have suffered the loss of a child. When a child dies, at any age, the family suffers intense pain and may feel hopelessness and isolation. Some may find it difficult to overcome so the grief can last for years. Therefore, they need help from someone who understands the type of pain that they are going through. That is the type of help that we offer at our organization. We offer mentorship and referral services to the families that are dealing with grief. We give assistance by being a listener, an encourager, and whatever else the bereaved may need through the guidance of God.
First step in our process is acceptance of what has happened. We help our clients to accept that:
● the loss is real
● they are meant to rise higher as a direct result of the loss
● they can never have all the answers
● they may never understand all the meanings
● they must know that they will make it.
And from acceptance, they find surrender (no more resistance), then grace, then adjustment. When they finally adjust to the loss, they begin to become involved in life again, starting by redefining how they want to live. This may include finding new interests, developing new and old friendships, and starting new ventures. Finally, Triumph!

About the founder

Margaret Miller, the founder and chief executive officer of Finding Purpose Through Grief is a mother, who has experienced the loss of a child.
In 2014, Margaret unexpectedly lost her five-year-old daughter. The loss was quite sudden. It was very hard to deal with, very difficult to understand, and extremely painful. She mourns her daughter everyday but because she had other children who needed her she knew that when she wanted to give up she couldn’t. There was still the huge responsibility to raising the two other children. To give herself strength to go on, she began to look at the loss of her daughter in an honorable way. She saw her daughter as an Angel and feels honored that God allowed her to take care of one of his precious angels for five years. I know she is with me and my family constantly.
When interviewed Margaret stated “I know she is with me and my family constantly. I remembered when Leanna was alive, she displayed so much love to everyone around her, and that encouraged me to love my family even more. Leanna showed me that love is a remedy for healing. I have vowed to keep her name alive.”
Margaret has started Finding Purpose Through Grief, a not-for-profit organization, where she supports others who experienced what she has experienced. She remembers very well how certain family members and friends listened to her when she was grieving, and they encouraged her to move on. Now she is helping others that have experienced the loss of a child by being a listener, an encourager, and a support system through the guidance of God.
